I was in north America for 6 weeks June/Jully 2017. The experience of the folk scene in the New England area of the USA was amazingly nourishing. The two weeks with The Roaring Forties took us to several gigs in Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut (the famous Mystic Seaport Festival) with several concerts in homes and halls, and some great shanty sessions. They have a very healthy sea shanty community and a high regard for unaccompanied singing which was further evidenced at the Old Songs Folk Festival, NY where I performed as a soloist and with the versatile Chris Maltby. Lots of new albums to listen to, songs to learn.

News since return from the US:

I’ve long enjoyed the repertoire of the Sydney Trade Union Choir (STUC) and I joined them in August 2017 – so that’s Tuesday nights sorted out forever….

There’s been a change of line-up in The Roaring Forties – now down to a slim foursome: Don Brian, Tom Hanson, Chris Maltby and Margaret Walters. We’re working on some great new material.

Go to Past Gigs for what I’ve done since the US, and to Gigs for the rest of 2017 and into 2018.
